Twenty-two year old Phil stands 6’2 ¾ inches and weighs in at a sturdy 255 lbs emanating excellence and strength on the field as both a leader and play maker. Dynamic in his abilities as a strong handed team player, Riley is a strong headed team player sure to be an asset to an NFL team. With Hoftra University’s Pro Day completed and all eyes set on the upcoming NFL Draft, Phil Riley of Hofstra sits in wait and remains eager to join the ranks of the NFL as a rookie Fullback for the upcoming 2009 – 2010 season. With impressive college stats as well as a strong Pro Day performance, it is hopeful for the Riley camp that Phil will soon be a part of an NFL team as a rookie player. With the trifecta of measure for most NFL prospects coming in the form of strength, speed, and agility Riley maintains a heavy presence in the minds of scouts across the league. As a stand out player in a small to mid size university setting, Riley now maintains his focus on the marketing aspect of his business; that of gaining a signed position with an NFL team. Relying heavily upon not only his collegiate play where he was consistently a dominant force on the field, he is also utilizing his eye opening performance during Hostra’s recent Pro Day. With a powerful 27 count in the 225 reps and leading the pack in the 20 – yard shuttle run with a time of 4.30 Riley stands a great chance at earning a chance to compete for a position on an NFL roster for the upcoming season.
Most often times the question is asked of NFL scouts what they are looking for in a prospect. For a Fullback in the NFL it is all about the ability to gain the tough yards, to block, and at times catch passes. Considering this, Riley is in a good position against the pack. His sheer toughness is legendary in the Hofstra program with coaches often commenting that Riley, as a standing Fullback, is tough enough to play Nose Guard. Complemented by his broadness and powerful strength; Riley is a capable receiver who is tough to bring down after the catch. Also unique to Riley is his long snapping ability; where his time is a consistent .69 seconds.
It is common knowledge that most rookies in the NFL, earn their spots through a compellation of talents representing abilities to play in multiple positions and for Fullbacks, most often times there is a shared opportunity to play at either the Fullback or Tight End position. Where Riley continues to stand above the competition is his uncommon ability to also long snap for punts and extra points. For whatever NFL team Riley is given a chance to earn a roster spot on they are sure to utilize him in the best suited role for their run at the championship and Riley is okay with that since he is a champion in all he does.
